The most effective guide on applying for a JOB

  1. When applying for a job to a company that does not advertise any hiring, always submit a resume during off peak hours.  Do not submit your documents during the peak hours and I assure you nobody will take time to check your resume.
  2. When answering on advertised jobs only show up at the schedule stated on the ad.  If no time is given then submit your papers during off peak hours, but don’t submit your resume during closing time
  3. If applying for a job you have heard about from word of mouth or through a friend make sure to talk about how you heard about the job when submitting your resume. Ask the about the name of the manager or any HR personnel so that you will know the names to whom you address your application letter.  Also find out the best time to drop off a resume.
  4. Have a resume ready and attach it to any application form you are asked to fill out. Keep your resumes neatly in a folder and keep the folder within easy reach in a bag or backpack.
  5. Dress tidily, conservatively but also casually. Avoid trendy clothes, jeans, or personal identity statements unless they are appropriate to the job, for example; trendy is appropriate if the job is in a stylish clothing store.
  6. Take away all your piercing that may be unpleasant and noticeable to an employer such as facial piercing and keep tattoos covered unless these things seem at the place of employment.
  7. Courteously draw near to the first accessible employee and ask if they are hiring. Never disrupt a conversation, wait patiently until you are acknowledged.
  8. If you converse to anybody but a manager and are told they are not hiring ask if you can leave a resume anyway and be sure to get the managers name and the next time they will be working. Stop by a second time when you know the manager will be available.
  9. Follow-up in person a few days after you drop of an application or resume. Make sure you follow up when you know the manager will be there. When you stop in merely restate your interest in the job and let the manager know that you hope they’ll keep you in mind when there’s an opening.
  10. Always be polite, converse noticeably and don’t stay too long. For instance, if you just dropped a resume at a record store don’t stick around to do some shopping. Never smudge the line between potential employee and customer.job
