The objective of any business is to make its customers happy enough for them to initiate more transactions with the company. There is only one way to do this – to provide the clients with products and services that are of excellent quality. When customers are satisfied, the next time they need the same product or service, they would think of the company first.
Whenever the producer–consumer relationship is discussed, what often comes to mind is the manufacturer and the person who buys the manufactured goods. However, there are cases when the manufacturer sells its items to another manufacturer, who then uses the items to build another product, which is what the consumer buys. The initial source of equipment is called the OEM, or the original equipment manufacturer.
OEMs are present in many industries but are the most evident in the field of electronics, where the use of smaller components is necessary to construct one gadget. In order to get more orders from their client companies, OEMs must offer products that function at the highest level. This can be achieved by efficient management procedures and top-of-the-line production processes. One way to assure quality in both these areas is to apply for the different industry certifications that require companies to adhere to rigid standards of excellence.
ISO 9001
The International Organization for Standardization awards the 9001 ISO quality management certification to companies that have proven their management merit. To be able to qualify for this certification, a company’s management division must ensure the efficient flow of business-related activities to ensure customer satisfaction.
ESD S 2020
Because electronic parts are integral to important fields such as communication and transportation, it is essential to have a standard-policing body such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to ensure the effectiveness and safety of these devices. This is the purpose of the ANSI ESD S 2020 standard, which encompasses all processes relevant to the production of equipment that are vulnerable to electrostatic discharge.
AS 9100
There are times when certain industries have OEM standards as well. For example, the aerospace industry relies on the AS9100 certification to guarantee that all gadgets and devices used to build air and space vehicles are up to par. Bearers of this certification assure their client companies that their equipment is safe and sound to use.
