Table Runner Patterns “Frank”–a great pattern for any Halloween occasion!
Fold each inside trim piece in half lengthwise and iron wrong sides in. Sew the trim on top of the center piece raw edges on the outside and the fold of the trim on the inside, sew the top and bottom first and then the sides. Sew the border onto the center, sewing the top and bottom first and then the sides. The border is sewn on top of the trim.
Sandwich the table runner back, batting and table runner top.
Cut out bats and all Frank pieces. Iron each piece with heavy starch until slightly stiff. Spray the back of each piece slightly with quilter’s adhesive. This is optional, I like to use pins. Position Frank pieces and bats on table runner top starting with the bottom pieces. Layer each piece slightly overlapping each piece and appliqué after each layer. I used a straight stitch to appliqué all the pieces. I wanted a frayed straight look. Use the appliqué method of your choice. You are appliquéing the pieces through all three layers.
You can now quilt the table runner with machine quilting. Don’t know how to machine quilt? You can use your sewing guide and sew straight lines or diagonal lines through all three layers or use a decorative stitch on your sewing machine. Trim excess fabric and batting.
Join the binding pieces together into one strip and iron with heavy starch. Fold binding in half widthwise and iron with the wrong side of the fabric inside. Fold down the end of the binding and sew binding to edge of the table runner. See diagram for mitered corners. Overlap pieces of binding when they meet. Cut excess off. Fold binding in half so that half of it is on the back of the table runner and sew by hand or machine stitch the binding to the back of the table runner.
Sew buttons on Frank and bats for eyes. With six strands of embroidery floss back stitch a mouth and stitches on Frank’s face.
Wash your table runner for that antique quilted look. Enjoy!!!
