The International Organization Standard (ISO) enumerates the requirements for quality management systems in its 9001 standard. By effective implementing of the 9001 standard of ISO, there will be a flexible framework for a business management system to provide continuous improvement in the performance and growth of the business. This standard is applicable to any type and size of business or organization.
A quality management makes use of eight principles. These principles include leadership; customer focus; factual approach to decision making; process approach; system approach to management; involvement of people; mutual beneficial supplier relationships and continual improvement.
All of the aspects of the activities of an organization are covered by the 9001 standard of ISO. Some of the organization’s activities are management review, establishing policies and objectives, product and process planning, defining roles and responsibilities, resource requirements, improving communication, internal audit, product and processes monitoring and measurement, documentation of requirements and many more.
There are several formats that are used by most companies to satisfy the demands of their employees. To provide opportunity for employees to listen to presentations and to explain to them the importance of using quality processes properly, lectures and seminars can be conducted by the company leaders. There are also web-based and other self-paced options for employees who cannot attend the seminars and lectures. The certification of quality management systems provides a framework to the company that enables it to utilize the standard vocabulary of the industry when referring to quality management procedures and processes.
In most cases, employees that do not interact with customers directly lack the motivation to make improvements on the different processes. These employees also often do not understand the direct impact of their work to the company profit and customer satisfaction. As a solution to this problem, the company must teach the employees the coverage of the ISO 9001 standard.
To successfully implement a quality management system program, there must be appropriate sponsorship and endorsement from the executive. It often requires extensive planning and coordination to ensure that employees take the training, make studies from additional resources and pass assessment exams regarding the 9001 ISO standard.
