Scarring is possible whenever the skin sustains damage from a surgical procedure. Because of the incisions and sutures, unwanted scars may appear. Although some scars disappear over time, large scars from large sutures stay for a lifetime. Commercial products for removing scars are already available over the counter. These products, however, can treat only limited levels of scarring. Patients are advised to prepare themselves for scars after surgery. This is not a big deal though for those who will undergo reconstructive surgery.
