AudioLogic Hearing Services is an independent hearing clinic owned and managed by Michelle Pasinati, an Audiologist with a Masters in Clinical Audiology and full membership with the Audiological Society of Australia (ASA). Michelle has 10 years experience in clinical audiology; assessing and managing hearing impairment in children and adults. Hearing loss is the greatest disability in Australia, with approximately 60% of people aged 60 and over having a significant hearing loss. However, hearing loss is no longer a disability of the elderly. Approximately 15% of baby boomers (aged 41-59 years) have a hearing loss.
How do you know if you have a hearing loss? Most hearing loss happens gradually so you may not notice it until it becomes a big problem. The people around you will notice it first. You may have to ask people to repeat themselves, especially if there is any background noise. You may miss parts of the conversation and need to turn up the TV louder than before. You may fail to hear the doorbell, telephone or other warning signals. Birds chirping may become fainter and fainter and music may not sound as rich and clear anymore.
As the hearing loss worsens, you may find yourself straining to hear conversations and becoming tired from the effort required to listen. Over time, you may find yourself avoiding social situations and losing interest in activities that you once enjoyed.
