The Chrysler Corporation released the Dodge Mini Ram Van in 1984. In 1989, manufacturers renamed the vehicle the Caravan C/V, and in 1995, manufacturing of the vehicle was discontinued. The Dodge Mini Ram Van was part of the Dodge Caravan family of minivans released by the Chrysler Group LLC. The Dodge Mini Ram Van was available in short or long wheelbase models. The Dodge Caravan C/V came with one of two options- a hatch door or ‘barn doors’ which swung outwards. The vehicle possessed a 36-gallon fuel tank as well as chrome mirrors, bumpers, and bright wheel covers. Additionally, they featured tinted glass as well as a low back bucket driver’s seat. The Caravan C/V was also released in a camper version, which the Chrysler Corporation phased out after two years due to lukewarm reception.
The Dodge Mini Ram Van was very similar in make to the Dodge Aries and the Plymouth Reliant, as they all related to the Chrysler S platform. As with all of Dodge’s Generation I Caravans (Caravans produced between 1984 and 1990), three trim levels were released- base, mainstream SE, and upscale LE. Because Dodge’s full-sized vans were more popular than the Mini Ram Van and pulled in a larger percentage of the market share, the Dodge Mini Ram Van and Ram Wagon were acquired by the Daimler Group.
The Dodge Corporation, therefore, is still in the process of producing Dodge Ram Vans- the most recent release of the vehicle was made in 2010. However, the Mini Ram Van had not been as successful on the market.
Purchasing a Used Mini Ram Van Engine
From 1984-1986, the Dodge Mini Ram Van came with one of two engine choices- a base 2.2 Liter engine producing 96 horsepower and a 2.6 Liter engine released by Mitsubishi which produced 104 horsepower. Purchasers have generally criticised the base engine for being underpowered, which should be considered when buying a used Mini Ram Van engine. In mid-1987, however, due to increased competition from the Aerostar produced by Ford and the Astro produced by Chevrolet, both engines were upgraded. The base engine was replaced with a fuel-injected 2.5 Liter engine, which made 100 horsepower, while the Mitsubishi-made engine was replaced with a fuel-injected V6 engine which produced 136 horsepower. This engine was more preferred by buyers of Dodge Caravans, and can be considered a worthier purchase. In 1989, a powerful turbocharged version of the base engine was released, which produced 150 horsepower. In this year, the Mitsubishi-made V6 was also upgraded as its horsepower was increased to 142. In 1990, a new engine option was added. This was the 3.3 Liter V6, which measured 150 horsepower.
