The Meat Industry in Canada

With an environment fit for livestock business, Canada has been able to generate billions of dollars of income from its agriculture and food industry each year. At present, Canada exports more than a million ton of animal meat to over 150 countries and provides a wide listing of jobs for many Canadians.

Pork
Canada is considered a major distributor of pork in the world, with more than 20 million pigs are slaughtered in the country each year. Canada’s large prairie land has contributed to the growth of the hog industry. These lands become croplands, growing wheat, grains, and canola, which serve as food for the pigs. With a kind of environment advantageous to hog farming, Canada earns a reputation of supplying high-quality pork in the world. Canadian processed pork exports include smoked hams, bacons, meat powders and sausages.

Poultry

Canada’s poultry industry consists of chicken, ducks, geese, quail and turkey. With thousands of commercial poultry producers, Canada exports more than 100 kilograms of fowl meat and other fowl products to 78 countries around the globe annually. Exported processed poultry products include: frozen eggs, liquid eggs, and frozen, chilled, or prepared poultry meat.

Beef

There are approximately 83,000 cattle ranches across Canada. High-quality, fresh Canadian beef is recognized by many countries around the world. As consumers around the world prefer eating beef that are organic, cattle ranches in Canada practice an “organic way” of raising cows, feeding cows with purely natural food and raising them in large grasslands and croplands. Consumers around the world can be assured that Canadian beef is a high-quality purely organic beef, which undergoes from high-standard quality checking and meat processing.

The concentration of meat processing industry is located in Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta. Central Alberta itself produces thousands of tons of meat that can feed half of Canada. One of the leading meat processors in Alberta is the Mad butcher, which produces high quality beef, pork and poultry.

Canada indeed has a world-class meat processing industry. The country is fortunate for being blessed with a natural environment that is spacious and helpful in raising healthy livestock.
