If you’re a guitarist, you’ve perhaps noticed how low-priced some guitars are these days. If you happen to be an aspirant guitarist who wants to get some equipment, you could be fortunate. There has never been a better time to purchase an entry-level guitar.

For example, you can obtain a knock-off of a Fender Strat for roughly $150 or lower. It is named the Fender Squier, and it is a very acceptable beginning guitar. The exact thing goes for a Gibson Les Paul. You can find a good imitation manufactured by Gibson under the Epiphone label for below $200. That’s incredible, and it is not a pile of rubbish — it’s a fantastic guitar, particularly for a beginner. Epiphone also makes a Gibson SG copycat for below $300.

When you consider the many 1000s of dollars it could cost to obtain the name brand, these guitars are awesome for the pocketbook. It affords you the ability to live with them for a bit before you make the big investment in the actual thing. How do they do it, though?

They take a few short cuts that you maybe won’t notice, and they are using some cheaper lumber containing several great qualities, namely, strength and resonance. Save you are a very skilled player or have already got one of the luxurious versions, you almost certainly won’t even see any differentiation in the feel or the tone.

Among the short cuts the manufacturers take is to bolt the neck onto the body rather than to run it through the body. You most likely won’t think about about that as soon as you play the axe. It will not change the way it plays, and even if it influences the tone somewhat, odds are that you will not notice.

Another way the makers limit cost is to use agathis for the body. Agathis is a robust wood that has great resonance. It costs the makers less to use it, and you end up the winner with a good instrument that has an incredible sound. If you’d like a fine wood, you shell out for it. If you would like a good axe at a good price, you pay for agathis.

Guitar manufacturers are also able to save money by making guitars in nations outside of the USA. Guitars made in America will usually be very costly, but those made in Mexico, China and some other countries, are more cost-effective for musicians who haven’t found that high paying gig, yet.
