Computer hardware engineering is a special engineering discipline that consists of researching, designing, prototyping and monitoring computer hardware and peripheral devices such as keyboards and printers. It is one of the most fastest evolving fields of engineering. To succeed as a computer hardware engineer, (in addition to having an engineering degree) one must have a deep theoretical knowledge of the physics of electricity, mechanics, and a firm understanding of the inner-workings of a computer. Senior engineers in the field usually have multiple engineering degrees in engineering, computer science, physics, math or a combination of several of them. The level of expertise required to succeed in the career causes it to offer a high average salary. An average salary for a computer hardware engineer working in the United States is around $100,000.
