Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two is officially out at the cinema and for many it feels like the end of an era. Children grew up with the actors who played the trio, and parents read the books to their children whilst falling in love with the wizarding world themselves. So…what now? What do you do if you’re not quite ready to close the book and carry on without Potter & Co?
Well if you haven’t already, you could listen to the music. Yep, the music. I don’t just mean the film score either. There’s been a bit of a movement amongst serious Harry Potter fans for quite a while now. It’s called ‘wizard rock’ or ‘wrock’ for short, and as strange as it might sound, it’s more popular than you might first imagine.
‘Harry and the Potters’ consist of brothers, Joe and Paul DeGeorge. They’re known as the ‘founders’ of wizard rock and have been singing about the book series since 2002. Since their humble backyard band beginnings, their music has featured on well over a dozen records, including three studio albums, two live albums, and a bunch of compilation CD’s where they feature alongside a plethora of other wrock bands.
They boys who are known donning Harry Potter fancy dress costumes on stage, have played hundreds of library shows, promote literacy, and co-founded The Harry Potter Alliance. The HPA is a charity organisation that raises money and awareness for a variety of different causes. Members of the organisation use the books as a platform for inspiring real world activism. There are 60 HPA chapters worldwide, all striving to make the world a better place through the things that Potter taught them about love, loyalty, friendship, justice, and more. If there isn’t a chapter near you, it’s perfectly possible to start your own.
There are plenty of other wrock bands around if Harry and the Potters aren’t your thing. Prefer rap music to guitar solos? MC Kreacher might be just your thing. Fancy a laugh? Gred and Forge are undoubtedly your best bet. For those amongst us who giggle at wand descriptions, then Swish and Flick will really speak to you. A quick search will bring up a mass of Potter related music for you to choose from. Before you dismiss it, I implore you to give it a listen. You might just like it.
Think it’s all over? You couldn’t be more wrong. Harry Potter might officially be coming to a close in cinemas, but for those who have been with the boy wizard from the very beginning, the journey is far from over. As Jo Rowling said herself, “Hogwarts will always be here, to welcome you home.”
If you’re potty about Potter then why not start looking for harry potter fancy dress to celebrate the boy who lived? Whether it’s Halloween costumes uk you’re after, or a Firebolt then Fancy Dress Costumes UK can help.
