Two Questions About Invisible Braces Answered

Have you at any time considered wearing invisible braces? Unless you have been blessed with perfect teeth there’s a pretty good chance that at some point, perhaps even if only very briefly, you’ve considered teeth alignment. The trouble is that for many people over the age of around 16 the idea of wearing traditional metal braces is simply not one they’re prepared to consider for long.

The trouble with normal braces is that they are large, uncomfortable, very obvious and can sometimes cause problems such as ulcers. So the fact that today we’re able to take advantage of invisible braces means that a great many people have come back to the idea again, and have considered the possibility. However, a lot of people who really could benefit from teeth alignment haven’t gone ahead to find out more simply because of a few common misunderstanding, apprehensions and questions, all of which can easily be addressed.

In this article we’ll look briefly at a couple of the most common questions about invisible braces or clear braces such as those provided by Invisalign, and try to provide some answers to help those who might be tempted at least to find out a little more to do just that.

One of the first questions people have is about whether invisible braces really are invisible. Of course, invisibility is pretty hard to accomplish even with today’s technology, which is why they’re more commonly referred to as clear braces. Because invisible braces are very small and slim, and are made to fit your teeth perfectly, and are made from a completely clear material that’s totally transparent, they are very difficult to see.

In fact if you were in a room of people chatting all afternoon with each other, you’d probably end up leaving the room none the wiser as to who was wearing braces and who wasn’t. It really would be that difficult to tell. Unless you know what to look for, and unless you look at a person’s teeth really closely you almost certainly won’t be able to tell whether they’re wearing braces at all. So whilst clear braces may not be completely invisible, they’re as good as it gets.

Another common question people ask is whether clear braces are actually as good as standard braces. This is perfectly fair, since standard metal braces have been around for a very long time, and we’re all quite confident that they can achieve excellent teeth alignment results. Although clear braces offer a real cosmetic advantage in the short term, we certainly wouldn’t want to think that this was instead of the same long term cosmetic improvement. In fact there’s no need to worry, because not only can clear braces achieve the same standard of teeth alignment as normal braces, in most cases the result is better.

Not only that, but whereas standard braces achieve the results they do due largely to the dentists’ professional judgement and guesswork, clear braces achieve the result they do through computer simulations. Your teeth and gums are scanned in to the computer where a three dimensional model is created. The dentist can then manipulate each individual tooth to create the perfect alignment. The computer then generates the interim stages to take your teeth from their current position to the final desired alignment, and this is then how the braces themselves are designed.

This means that with invisible braces the end result is known far more accurately right from the very start. It’s also worth bearing in mind that you can easily remove clear braces at any time, making oral hygiene a good deal better. Almost certainly you’ll have more questions that need answering, but if these two answers have intrigued you, perhaps it might be worth finding out a little more about Invisalign.
