Should You Hire or Buy Your Food Chillers?

Let’s face it nothing ever breaks down at a good time. This definitely applies to food chillers, whose job it is to ensure that the cold foods stored inside them are kept at the appropriate temperature. If a shop has one or more of these and one breaks down, it can create major problems. At best the stock will have to be moved to the remaining chillers to keep it at the right temperature. At worst it might spoil, if there is no other process chiller to move it to.

It is also the case that food chillers are not the cheapest items to buy. This goes without saying – they obviously have an important job to do. So if one breaks down irretrievably there will be a marked cost in replacing it. The other point worth noting is that small businesses will be particularly hard hit if their food chillers break down. Imagine a small shop with just the one chiller for example. If it broke down and could not be repaired the food inside it would spoil. In addition to this the shop owner would immediately have to find the money to pay for a brand new chiller.

You can see why some businesses – particularly small ones in the situation given above – would benefit from considering renting their equipment instead. If they rent their food chillers they simply have to pay an ongoing fee to hire them. If they need to change them, upgrade them or get them repaired it will all be done far more easily and speedily than it would if they owned their own food chillers.

Obviously you have to consider the ongoing cost of the chillers you would require. It could provide a practical and reliable solution even for larger retailers though, as they look to prevent the possible loss of sales. If a store has its own chillers and they all break down (as has happened in some situations), they may have to wait some time to take delivery of new ones. In this case it is fairly obvious that a lot of lost sales will be racked up because of the amount of food that cannot be displayed or sold.

Renting food chillers may seem to be an unlikely proposition. But when you think about it, it actually makes good business sense. You never have to take ownership in the same way you would if you did own them, so you can get a better service with far fewer worries.

If you are considering opening a small business selling chilled foods, you may wish to consider the idea of renting your air conditioning and chillers instead of buying them as you normally would. It’s a great idea and it could be more cost effective for your business as well.
