Another effective form of aerator is the harrow. A harrow is a farming implement that breaks the compacted clods of earth and makes the soil smooth. It is different from the plow that goes deeper into the soil. You may need a harrow at times for the removal of weeds or for covering the seeds once they have been sown. There are various kinds of harrows such as the chain harrow, tine and spring tine harrow, the disc and the spike harrow. The chain harrow is generally used for the lighter kind of role such as when seeds have been sown and the soil needs to cover them. The disc harrow, on the other hand, is used for heavier work such as that of breaking compacted clods of earth.
