Laminate Floors Maintenance Tips

Laminate floors are quickly becoming the consumer’s choice for floor covers. The carpets, ceramic tiles and hardwood floors are making way for laminate floors because they are cheaper, easier to install and maintain, and very durable. However even the most durable surface requires maintenance in order to preserve it for years to come. And as it is with all of the above mentioned floor covers the best way to do that is by cleaning the laminate floor regularly.

Although the cleaning of a laminate floor is considerably easier than lets say carpet cleaning there are still some rules that are important and have to be obeyed. The laminate floor can get damaged if not clean properly just like this can happen to the hardwood floor or the carpet.

The best cleaning tool for laminate floor is the fibre mop. A fibre mop is more expensive than an ordinary mop but is going to last for a longer period of time. If you follow the instructions of the manufacturer and take care of the mop you won’t have to buy another one for years. The microfibre material is more suitable for cleaning than most of the other materials because it doesn’t spread the dirt and grime without trapping, but actually collects it in its tiny spores. If you want to take full advantage of the fibre mop then clean the laminate floors in combination with specially designed cleaning products and detergents that are ideal for laminate floor cleaning.

If you don’t have a fibre mop and don’t intend to buy one you still can clean the laminate floor the old fashioned way – with a regular mop and vacuum cleaner or broom. First vacuum or sweep the floors to remove any debris and dust, and after that mop up the floor to remove any dirt and grime that is lodged to the floor. Similar to carpet cleaning, do this every week or even twice a week.

For deep cleaning of laminate floors use a steam mop. The steam mop not only cleans, removes stains but it also disinfects the surface. Steam mop is considered safe for laminate floors however it is recommended to double check that by reading the manual of the installed laminate floor.
