FOR YOUR EYES ONLY-SOUTH AFRICA

AS THE WATERS COVER THE SEA-THE CAPE OF STORMS

Hi di hi!    Hi di ho!   Yeah this is totally impromptu, off the cuff and spontaneous.   Think of it as hot  off the press, but not causing a stink.   Wink.  Yes,  it’s a piece on my view of how the Western Cape was won.   Yeah,  it all started with Marthinus Van Schalkwyk and the then New National Party and Peter Marias as Mayor or Cape Town and others of their ilk, who won the Mother Province for the Pro-Aparthheid minority.      Suddenly things went wrong and people became dislillusioned.   Yeah that place is a comedy of errors,  a kaleidoscope of cultures, intermingled and intertwined.   It’s amazing how they survive.   They a country within a country. Everyone who visits there says its a beautiful place-a unique experience with a wonderful South African old world flavour-where it all began.   While there you can actually imagine what it was like when Van Riebeeck arrived and met the Hottentots at Hottentots Holland.   I think even Copper Mountain is still there.   Simon Van Der Stel’ estate.  The contribution of the French Huguenot.    There were no tsotsi’s back then-gangsters.   Just two primitive cultures badly in need of  each other.   The Dutch needed a hot bath, meal and bed for the time.   They got more than that.     They got ululation and celebration and hugs and kisses.   And the Coloureds were born. Now to save the Western Cape from ANC domination, the majority voted New National Party only to discover there was nothing new about that party at all.   They were still wolves in sheep’s clothing.   So when the majority saw the futility of their actions,  they turned and voted for ANC  in 1999.   Dr Dullah Omar, Ebrahim Rasool and other s were now firm favourites and candidates of choice for much needed change.   However, the majority were still not pleased so they decided to vote DA(democratic party).    And everyone lived happily ever after. So that’s the story of how the Western Cape was won in a nutshell.  Since the local electons Patricia de Lille,   floor crossed from the Independent   Democrats and was offered the lucrative career of Mayor of Cape Town.   But the for the life of me I can’t understand how such a civilised government with such a high crime rate and rape rate can allow people to use open plan toilets!    Western Cape has the highest crime rate in the world. and in South Africa a woman is raped ever 5 seconds.   I can only imagine what it will be like for those people if they got closed indoor toilets.   A province where child sex tourism is rife and drug abuse and murder.   A place of extreme poverty and virtually no chance for social upliftment.   I can understand open plan kitchens.   But open plan toilets with no walls and doors nogal!   How do you preserve the dignity of the people when they are exposed to such inhumanity and ridicule?   Two women are in charge of the Western Cape and then to allow other women and children to be exposed and to expose themselves when using the toilet-it’s cruel and insensitive.      Shows utter disregard for the human rights and dignity, safety and security of these vulnerable members of our society.   A total disregard fo our constitution.   Humiliating these poor people. Please do something!     Someone!     Is anybody listening?     People are living there?   Kids don’t know that they not supposed to be wtched in the loo unless it’s a parent or someone in charge of them.   This just exposes them to child rapists and the women too to vicious attacks especially at night. People are living there.    I appeal to me Jimmy Manyi and Helen Zille and Patricia de Lille to do something not just window dressing but to really help those who are marginalised.   It’s a thankless job  but that’s the price you pay as a public servant. Thank you because i know deep down you are all competent individuals.
