If you want to see architecture from a hundred years ago, Oyster Bay Estates in Sarasota Florida is something to put on your list. The Oyster Bay community includes diverse properties that sit on Sarasota Bay, the lake, or inland. The original community started developing in the 1910s and 1920s. Newer homes sit where some of the older ones used to, but you can still see many jewels of the early settlement of the neighborhood. Some of the older homes came down for condominium development. Yet, some of the larger waterfront properties have large mansions. That makes this community great for many price ranges.
Oyster Bay Estates is on the “west side of the trail.” The two main thoroughfares through the community are North Lake Shore Drive and South Lake Shore Drive. North Lake Shore runs north of the lake, obviously, ending out on a point that juts into Sarasota Bay. South Lake Shore runs to the south of the lake before ending in a cul de sac on the edge of the bay as well. One of the oldest and most exclusive clubs, Field Club, sits in the midst of Oyster Bay Estates. Located in an old home, today Field Club members can enjoy boating, tennis, swimming, and other activities throughout the year. Many residents of this luxury community are members of the club. Homes in the Oyster Bay Estates range from 1950s ranches through very contemporary homes. The smaller homes start around 2500 square feet with large homes topping 5000 square feet. Some homes have three bedrooms and two baths. The large homes can have six bedrooms and three baths. Smaller, older homes in the community can start at $450,000, while the larger mansions can top out at $2.5 million. With some condominiums in the area, there is a wide range of prices available. That is just some examples of the diversity of this neighborhood.
While the Oyster Bay Estates is not a gated community, there is a true air of exclusivity in this neighborhood. Many homes have mature landscaping all around. Those with waterfront property often have boat slips that allow them easy access to Sarasota Bay. Some homes have enclosed pools and other recreational facilities. This community sits very close to major shopping areas, restaurants, and entertainment. It is close to downtown Sarasota’s arts district and minutes away from the beaches on the barrier islands.
