The Gene May Also Be Responsible For Insomnia

Insomnia refers to chronic sleep problems and the problem is compounded by the onset of additional complications. Just like other lifestyle diseases, sleep loss is also on the increase. Sleep loss itself, in many cases, is a byproduct of altered lifestyles. Chronic insomnia is a condition which is rather difficult to treat. This is because not much is known about why insomnia is occurring in the first place and also not much is known about the phenomenon of sleep.

Statistical evidence is available which suggests that chronic insomnia could be ‘contagious’. Of course, no infection is involved. It has been shown that the presence of insomnia in the family increases the risk for others getting it. The risk increases in proportion to the number of insomniacs present in the family. Thus, this is an unexplored aspect of insomnia. There is a likelihood that insomnia may run in families because of genetic predisposition.
