Ever wonder if it was possible to keep freshwater puffers as pets? Well, it is! True freshwater puffers can make excellent aquarium pets, however, their care is pretty specialized. For instance, you have to feed them the correct foods so that their “beaks” don’t get too long, and you can’t keep them in a community tank full of other fish.
Freshwater puffers are one of my favorite types of fish to keep because they make very engaging, interactive pets – all of mine greet me at the glass (most likely because they know food is coming…), and they are very aware of their surroundings!
Unfortunately, there really aren’t very many guides out there that provide correct information regarding the care of freshwater puffers – if the care sheet you’re reading refers to green spotted puffers as freshwater, then stop reading and find another guide!
