Infertility is on the increase throughout the world. Part of the blame for this lies on lifestyle changes and partly, the environmental changes are also responsible. Is there a connection between infertility and tendency to succumb to heart attacks? It would seem so based on statistical evidence. Studies carried out in the US suggest that it is better to become a father if one wishes to reduce the risk for coronary heart disease. The studies were meticulously carried out over a decade and involved nearly 100,000 men.
At the beginning of the study, none of the men had heart problems. After a decade, the subjects were tested although many of them had succumbed to heart attacks. After neutralizing for other risk factors, it was found that men who had fathered children had 17% reduced risk for getting heart attacks. This has indicated that some unusual connection, though not well defined, exists between infertility (or, lack of interest in having children) and increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
