Also known as “The Refugee”, “Three Faces West” sees Charles Coburn as Dr. Braun who having escaped Vienna and the advancing Third Reich is in America along with his daughter Leni (Sigrid Gurie) looking to start a fresh. They are offered work in Ashville Forks, North Dakota but when they arrive they discover not only a lot of sickness but also that the weather is so bad, so windy that Ashville Forks is a dying community of farmers struggling to hold on to the once fertile soils. Leading the farmers is John Phillips (John Wayne) who desperately is trying to keep everything going but he finds himself distracted by the beautiful Leni who whilst falling for him finds herself fighting her own loyalty to Eric (Roland Varno) the young Dr. who helped them escape from Vienna and feels indebted to – Three Faces West movie review
