Outdoor patios are a wonderful asset for any home.

Whether covered or uncovered, patios are the perfect meeting place for family barbecues, afternoon play times, or romantic evenings. Even simple and small patios can provide a nice outdoor escape on warm summer evenings, a place to get away from the cares of the day.

Here are five reasons why your home should have a patio or a patio improvement:

1.  Patios are a great place to barbecue. During the summer time nothing is better than cooking outdoors, especially if you don’t want to heat up the kitchen by using the oven. You can practically cook your whole meal on the barbecue. Nearly every meat known to man can be grilled and most vegetables can be grilled either directly on the grill or in a basket of sorts. 2.  Covered patios offer versatility. If you already have a patio but want to add some improvements, consider a cover of some sort. Retractable awnings are great because they can be opened as needed and closed when you don’t want shelter. Wooden lattice covers are also a great option because they provide shade while letting some sunlight through and you can decorate with crawling plants that will eventually cover the lattice work and provide more shade. One great thing about a covered patio is that even in the less favorable seasons you can still cook on the grill or even enjoy an evening on the patio next to a personal enclosed fireplace.

3.  Patios are a great place for family play. Patios are usually furnished with tables and chairs, which provide a great place for outdoor playtime with indoor toys. You child can still enjoy being outside while coloring or playing with dolls at the patio table. Also since patios usually are made of some hard smooth material, they are great for other games and activities like jump rope, hula hoop, toy cars, and sidewalk chalk. As a family you can enjoy the outdoors while playing a family game at the patio table.

4.  Patios are a great place for some evening romance. On warm summer nights after the kids have gone to bed, the patio can easily be transformed into a romantic oasis. With the help of some candles, some fresh cut flowers from your garden (or the store), some dessert and a little wine, your patio can the perfect romantic end to a busy day. You and your partner can sit back and enjoy the leisure of uninterrupted conversation or sweet silence. You can indulge in desserts and wash it down with a fine vintage. Essentially, you can use your patio to recover from the demands of the day.

5.  Patios add to home value. Simple Patios are easy to make on your own with a little bit of help, some time and some money, and they will be appreciated should you choose to sell your home. But, to add the most monetary value to your home, a professionally installed patio would be best. Hiring a professional may cost more, but the end result will look great. This kind of investment is one that you can enjoy immediately and also later when you sell the home. Everyone enjoys having a patio for one reason or another and adding one to your home or improving the one you have will add great personal and monetary value to your home.
