Various Natural Methods for Fleas Control

It’s almost natural for dogs to have fleas. But the fleas dogs have can be avoided with proper measures. Pyrethrin

Pyrethrin is one of the most commonly used natural methods of controlling or preventing fleas in dogs. It can be extracted from chrysanthemums and have been in use for many centuries now. Just by being in contact with pyrethrin, fleas are killed by one substance it contains which is the natural insecticide. What’s great about using pyrethrin is not harmful to the dogs and humans because it would simply oxidize into harmless compounds. It may cause effects but only in very high levels.

D-Limonene and Diatomaceous Earth

Even orange peels can be useful in keeping fleas away. This is because orange peels contain d-limonene. This substance is used in making flea baths and flea sprays. And the products are made available commercially in pet stores.

On the other hand, diatomaceous earth is also very useful in shedding all the fleas on your dog’s coat. These are essentially algae of bony shells which now can be purchased as food-grade diatomaceous earth in pet and feed stores. It basically slices the carapaces of the fleas and bleeds the fleas to death. You simply need rub the diatomaceous earth on the dog’s coat. You will then have to bathe the dog to wash the substance and the dead fleas. What’s great about using this natural substance is that is it does not harm human aside from drying out the skin.

Garlic and Brewer’s Yeast

Instead of applying them, you can actually include garlic and brewer’s yeast in your dog’s diet to keep fleas away. By doing so your pet’s skin would have an odor that would truly repel the fleas. That is why they are effective in preventing flea infestation as well as getting rid of any flea that is on your dog already. Of course, their breath would also smell pungent. But it’s part of keeping fleas away too. The good thing about it is these two ingredients are not harmful to the dogs. They will not affect you much either because it is your pet dog who will eat them.

Again it is important that you prevent or when it’s too late at least get rid of the fleas. This will keep your pet healthy as well as prevent any trouble and any inconvenience caused by the fleas. But make sure you will not harm the dogs in doing so too.
