Its for the reasons above that the Internet is fast becoming a life line for so many people. There ARE ways to make money online but don’t be fooled. It’s no where near as easy as it looks. However, that doesn’t make it impossible. Creating a website or a blog is becoming popular as a way to earn extra money online.
Building a blog or a website isn’t rocket science any more. You no longer have to have a qualification in web development to create a respectable and professional looking website. Its really quite easy when you know how. You can create a blog for free at websites such as Blogger, Squidoo or WordPress. Blogs are like an online Diary or Notepad, where you can update them with ‘articles’ or information as and when you see fit. People will ‘Blog’ just about anything these days. Whether it be the latest fashion tips, beauty treatments, recipes…. You name it and someone somewhere is blogging about it. So how can you make money from this? Many people use these blogsites to advertise. They can advertise their own services, such as article writing if they find themselves a natural at filling their own blog space. It really just depends on what you’re good at or passionate about. However, one of the most popular forms of advertising is Affiliate Advertising or Affiliate Marketing. This is where you advertise other peoples products or services on your blog or website, by way of links, banners or widgets.
So the question is…… Where do you find these ‘advertisers’ who are so keen to let you promote their products? Well, its easier than you’d think. You see there are many affiliate marketing companies out there who both merchants and affiliates sign up to – Affiliatebot, Commission Junction, Clickbank to name but a few. They act as a sort of hub or ‘go between’ the merchant (the seller) and the affiliate (the promoter). If you wanted to begin advertising on your website or blog, then you would create an account with the Affiliate Marketing Company and apply to their merchants. The merchants will then review your website or blog and if they approve, you will be provided with advertising material to promote on your website on their behalf. If a visitor to your site, clicks their advert and goes on to buy the product or service advertised, you will receive a commission. Its worth noting, that many merchants have strict rules about who can advertise for them. Some won’t even consider basic free sites so if you’re serious, you may want to sign up to a Web Hosting Company and create your own website and domain name. The cost of hosting a website can be as little as a few £s/$s a month, well worth the investment in my opinion. Unfortunately, Free Websites usually come with limited support, limited space and quite often your website will have the hosts advertising as part of the deal. Thus taking up valuable advertising space you could be generating money from yourself. So its certainly worth weighing up the pros and cons before jumping in and creating a free site.
If you choose to create a static website, with your own domain name i.e. a .com or suchlike, then you are in a more advantageous position to expand your website and brand yourself. Another advantage of signing up with a reputable web hosting company is that they will usually provide you with a choice of website templates. These templates can be extremely professional looking, with many extra features such as a domain email address, forums, rss feeds, share functions, videos, free images etc. It really depends on the web host you choose to register with, so its worth checking out what they offer in the way of templates and features before signing up.
Anyway, back to affiliate marketing. I can’t mention online advertising without including probably the most popular advertising network online – Google Adsense. Google Adsence is so desirable because it doesn’t work on a commission basis. In fact, if a visitor to your website clicks on a Google Advert, whether they go on to purchase or not, you will receive revenue from Google. Its called Pay Per Click and many affiliates and Internet Marketers make a healthy income from Google Adsense alone. By placing the adverts strategically on your website, you increase the chance of people clicking and there is also the opportunity to incorporate a Google Search Box into your website. This gives your visitors the convenience of searching straight from your website but you can also earn revenue when they click away. Its easy to see why Google Adsense is such a popular choice amongst website owners.
So if you’re finding things tough at the moment, why not consider creating your own website and experiment with ways to make some extra cash. You can find out more about creating your own website and ways to optimize, promote and monetize your website at How To Create A Website.
