Your baby has finally reached the long waited crawling stage and you are excited about it. This is when the right time to bathe it has come. You might be wondering about the best kinds of bath soaps and the baby shampoos, which are safe. However, before you think of that you will probably be wondering when the right time to start using the bathtub is. You might also be thinking about sponge bathing. Whatever choice you make, bathing should be enjoyable and in any case not a scary experience. What is the best way to make bathing enjoyable for your baby and yourself?
The first two weeks
If you are a new parent, it is very common to have a lot of questions concerning how often and when you need to bathe your kid. The first important thing you need to know is that it is not a good idea to bathe your child before its umbilical cord has fallen off. The time it takes for it to fall is about two weeks. Your baby can be sponge-bathed during this period of two initial weeks in order to keep it clean.
After the two-week period
What is the right way to give your baby its first bath when the two-week period is over? The first thing you should do is get a baby bath tub or if you do not want to do that you can use the kitchen sink for the purpose. It might get really difficult because babies sometimes can be really slippery to hold. You need to stay calm all the time and make sure that you have a good grip on your child.
Does a baby need to take a bath each day? This is something, which is entirely up to you to decide. In case you feel that your baby needs good hygiene habits from the beginning of its life you should go ahead and start bathing it every day.
Preparing the bathroom
Everything you are going to need should be assembled beforehand. You cannot leave your baby alone in the bathroom while you go fetch your baby shampoo. Maybe you are not sure what exactly you are going to need. First of all, you need to get special baby shampoo because it has mild ingredients that do not irritate the skin of the baby and that makes it perfect for newborns as opposed to the regular shampoos you might have in your home. You need to wash the hair of your child each time you bath it. The rest of the things you will need include soap, hand cloth and towel. These are about the same things a grown up would need in order to take a bath. You should not forget rubber mats or foam pads because they will be able to help you prevent your kid from slipping.
In case you want to massage your baby, you should use almond oil or baby oil, which we call Creme til tør og rød hud in Denmark.
