The hair of your baby should be washed frequently and you should use baby shampoo (or other special baby care products we know as Produkter til babypleje in Denmark)or even plain water to do it. When your baby is about twelve to sixteen weeks old start washing its hair with water every day but use shampoo only two times per week. The shampoo you choose for your child should be tear-free but nevertheless you should avoid putting it near the eyes of your baby. If you are going to be washing a very small child you can use the football carry position – sit near the end of your bathtub and put the child on your legs with its face against yours. This way you can make a young child feel secure especially in case it is scared by water. You should not get nervous about the fontanels since the membrane which is covering them is highly durable and you do not need to apply any pressure on the hair so in case you are gentle enough, no harm will be done.
The bath lotion or shampoo should be applied to the hair of your baby and it should gradually be worked in until lather is formed. Before you rinse it off, you should wait about twenty seconds and then there will be no need for it to be applied twice. When rinsing the hair take a washcloth which has been put in warm water in order to wipe away the suds. Any traces of soap should be thoroughly removed for proper baby hair care. When you are drying the hair of your baby, you should avoid covering its face with the towel because they might panic and start crying. The best way to go about it is to use just the edge of the towel for drying.
Babies often hate hair washing
A large number of young children dislike having their hair cleaned even if they actually like taking a bath. In case this is true about your baby then the best way to go about the hair care of your baby is to separate the cleaning of the hair from the bath. In case your child associates these two things with one another it might start getting grumpy about baths too. The main reason why many babies do not like to get their hair washed is because water and soap often get into their eyes and cause them pain. This is why you need to avoid it as much as you can. There are special shields for babies that are designed to be put just below the hairline and keep the eyes of the kid from the soap and the water. For proper baby hair care, you also need to hold your kid on your lap when cleaning the hair in order to make it feel less stressed. It is also better to use a washcloth that is dipped and rinsed instead of pouring water over the head of the young kid.
