Want to Seetowns that Complete Manila: Visit Makati

Manila the capital and the biggest symbolic of Philippines is made up of numerous small entities. These entities make a composite mass which goes by the name of Manila. In essence, to understand Manila, we need to look at these smaller atoms around which Manila gets it’s identity.

One of these entities is Makati. Makati is known for it’s Spanish influence, which, though is visible in other parts of Manila too, but the source is derived from Makati. It’s meteoric popularity is on an exponential rise, so much so, that a tourist sitting on one of the many flights to manila has already earmarked Makati in his itinerary before landing there.

Makati , since aeon’s years, has been striving to protect the Spanish roots it has engrained post freedom from colonization from Spain. The local government strives for the same by encouraging numerous meets, conclaves and cultural festivals which highlight the Spanish undercurrent flowing in the township. From the arched Spanish churches to native performers making the town come alive all through the year, Makati makes for an eye-opening stopover.

January’s last Sunday sees Makati hosting the festival Caracol, which has a huge symbiotic significance in the way Fillipino culture is presented in front of the world. It started off as a 3-festival composite which later turned into one major event in January. Caracol is a must for any tourist who travels in January to Manila. The event has gained epic proportions, in the sense that tourists now plan itenaries focussing around Caracol.

Flores de Mayo, another event gaining significance in the tourist circles sees professional artists, movie stars and other eminent personalities gathering together and performing in front of huge audiences. It is slowly making a mark for itself as a flagship event in Makati’s festive calendar. Flores de Mayo comes to an end with the Mayor of the city crowning one pleasant personality the title of Flower Queen.

Belen Sa Makati, an event which marks the onset of Christmas in Makati, sees homes and establishments adorning themselves with Christmas themes. This is a time when local bodies get together to provide food and shelter to the homeless so that on Christmas day, no one is left uncared for. It comes to an end the next day of Christmas with all night revelry marking Christmas day.

All in all, Makati presents a wonderful spectacle of all things Filipino. With the sharp rise in the number of cheap flights to manila from all major airports of the world, Manila is fast emerging as a convenient tourist destination for people from all parts of the world. Makati is one such small entity which shapes Manila and thus becomes important to appreciate, if we need to understand Manila at a molecular level.
