Christmas is one of the most exciting events of the year that millions of people look forward to celebrating. It is a special time for adults and a magical time for children. This festive time entwines religious beliefs with the pleasure of pantomimes, parties, decorations and the giving and receiving of presents. Even the grumpiest of souls manage to muster up a little festive cheer at some point during the lead up to Christmas.
Of course, Christmas is not confined to 25th December. Many towns begin the ‘switching on of the lights’ ceremony mid-way through November, with reindeer parades and mini Christmas carnivals following suit, offering a delightful beginning to the weeks that will follow. By the time December hits, families and individuals are itching to get out the decorations to place on the tree.
Checking the sparkly lights is a ritual every household must endure before the tree can be immersed in tinsels and baubles. If a bulb is out then chances are others will quickly follow suit, so it may be wise to invest in a new set to avoid disappointment. With so many choices available it can be difficult to know which lights to opt for. Sparkly, coloured, clear, flashing, angel style, stars, snow drops, the list goes on. Lights can be stylish, refined or bold and plentiful, depending upon how you enjoy viewing your Christmas decorations.
If you are not satisfied with confining your Christmas lights to the tree then you could always take a look at those suitable for outdoor use. Many can be placed on outdoor trees, the front of the house and garden fences, all of which offer a wonderful effect just in time for Christmas. Lighting up the outside will certainly offer a welcoming holiday feel to your entire street and perhaps encourage neighbours to join in with a little festive competition. Before you know it, everyone in the street could be trying to out-do each other by designing the best Christmas house!
Moving back indoors, candle bridges are a beautiful extra to show during this festive time of year and can be placed in various locations around the home. For a relaxing evening in, turn out the main lights in your living room and just leave on your Christmas tree lights and candle bridge. For some further added cheer, invest in a polar bear, snowman or Santa Clause who will light up not only your living room but also your face and particularly children’s.
Make the most of Christmas this year. Start as you mean to go on and decorate your house with the perfect lights, setting a standard to be followed for many years to come.
