There are numerous factors, which a new parent should take into consideration when caring for a newborn. Every parent should be prepared to provide proper baby care for his newborn child. Of course every child is different and the needs it has depend on the personality of the baby, in time the parents will learn all of the preferences of their child, before this however, the parents should be well prepared by knowing the basics of baby care so that their child can receive proper care from the beginning. The basic baby care routine includes proper feeding, regular sleeping, bathing and dressing of the newborn baby. When all of these simple tasks are handled properly by the parent the baby will be happy and healthy while it grows and develops.
Feeding of course is essential for the healthy development of your baby. Newborns need to be fed several times a day, every few hours your baby will be hungry and you will have to be prepared to respond to its needs. Remember that your baby will need to be fed even in the small hours of the night; it is not uncommon for babies to need food in the middle of the night, as a responsible parent you should know what your baby needs and provide it when it needs it.
Sleeping is another important aspect of the healthy development of your child. Babies need to sleep for many hours in their first months, fifteen to sixteen hours is the normal time for a baby to sleep. However, newborns have a sleeping pattern, which is not regular, they do not sleep longer than two hours at a time. So you should provide proper baby care for your baby by adjusting to its sleeping routine and providing for your baby sufficient time to rest.
Hygiene is important for the newborns as well, so bathing is another important baby care routine. However you should not bathe your baby every day and you should carefully select the products (called Produkter til babypleje in Danish) which you use to bathe your baby. The products should be designed for the soft and gentle baby skin. Bathing your baby two or three times a week is completely sufficient for its proper hygiene, and especially after changing its diaper (or God råd om bleskift as we say in Denmark).
In order to provide proper baby care for your child you should carefully select with what you dress it as well. Dressing your baby with inappropriate fabrics can irritate its soft and gentle skin; this is why you will have to consider purchasing baby clothes from softer fabrics for your newborn. The most appropriate fabric which you should use is cotton, cotton is soft and it is suitable for your baby’s gentle skin. When you dress your baby, you should use clothes made from cotton at least for the bottom layer of the clothes with which the baby is dressed with.
