These days it is not uncommon to see a row of empty shops on your local high street.
Many companies and manufacturers are feeling the effects of the current climate and are failing to see good enough profits to keep their businesses afloat. A lot of stores have no choice but to close their doors to remaining customers and say goodbye to their retail business.
As some companies are reflecting on their bad times of late, some manufacturers are smiling with glee at their latest profits. A lot of big name brands and designer labels are actually making more money than ever, even during the current debt ridden climate we are now living in. These including designer clothing brands and luxury goods labels that are ringing in very hefty profits.
One high end clothing label that a lot of us may be familiar with has seen its takings rise whilst others have struggled to even keep their heads above water. Paul Smith is a designer brand that originates from Britain and is a truly Great British label. The brand is one that produces a wide range of luxurious products. From clothing to home accessories, the designer label produces an array of products and items that are flying off the shelves.
Paul Smith has released its pre-tax profits, stating that they have risen by 36 per cent. The designer brand owns more than 150 stores around the globe and more are to be added to that number. The high end brand has spoken of its booming revenue in the current economic downturn. The company is even opening up more stores to compensate for the higher number of customers it is receiving, while other shops are forced to shut down.
It seems that a lot of business areas have been affected in the current climate but high end fashion is clearly not one of them. The designer brands and luxury labels of today are welcoming the extra profits in the doom and gloom of the economy. This recent news shows a change in shopper’s habits.
Rather than spending small amounts of money on throw away fashion, customers are now investing in key pieces that will last a lot longer than one off trends. Spending more money on something that will last longer in the wardrobe is the way people are now choosing to spend their hard earned cash.
With this we may see a lot more high brands succeeding in the fashion war of designer versus high street.
