This is Christmas weekend, even here in Indonesia. It always amazes me that news about the good things some Muslim nations do never is reported in the American press. This weekend, nationwide, Indonesia will have over 15 thousand police officers and another 20 thousand military personnel on guard at Christian places of worship and locations where foreigners will celebrate Christmas meals.

Why is it that the America press, who certainly have staff stationed here, never report such occurrences. Rather media corporations like CNN have, in the past, gone out of the way to air and report untrue and distorted stories about Indonesia. It makes me wonder which country really has the free press these days, America or Indonesia.
I am an American who travels to Indonesia on business several times a year. I over 30 years of travel, I have always been welcomed but Indonesian people at many levels of society. Why is it that the American press never portray the face of Islam in the largest Islamic country in the world.
Indonesia has arrested, incarcerated and even executed more Islamic terrorists, many from outside Indonesia, than any other country in the world. Have you ever read about that situation in the American press? I doubt it.
Right after the Bali bombing, spearheaded by an Indonesian born, but Malaysian citizen, Mas Selamat, Indonesia put thousands of undercover personnel in every single Islamic school in this country of over 280 million people. I believe it is time that the Republic of Indonesia be given credit for the fair and balanced, as Fox News would put it, actions of the government, the police, the military and the citizens of Indonesia.
In closing, I would tell you that in the past I have brought many friends and customers to Indonesia. To a person, after checking into a hotel in Jakarta, and seeing the security provided in every hotel, upon calling home they are asked, “Are you safe?”
To a person the answer has always been, unequivocally, “I never felt safer in any country in the world in my entire lifetime.”
