Released in 1949 “The Inspector General” sees Danny Kaye star as Georgi, a performer in Yakov’s (Walter Slezak) travelling show, out on his ear with no money when he felt bad about tricking people into buying a worthless medicine. But when he stumbles into a small town he is treated like royalty as the town are expecting a visit from one of the Emperor’s top officials and think Georgi is him in disguise. And with the town’s officials all on the make they can’t do another to make the stay a pleasurable one. That is until they decide they will need to kill Georgi before he discovers their misdoings … The Inspector General Movie Review
