Class Action Lawsuit Settlement

I recently received a notice in the mail for a class action lawsuit settlement for Honda Civic Hybrid cars for owners or lessees of Honda Civic Hybrid cars (model years 2003-2009). I had previously owned a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. We’ve since sold the car, but I am still an eligible participant in the class action lawsuit.

The lawsuit is because the gas mileage of the Honda Civic Hybrids did not perform as indicated on their stickers. And members of the class action lawsuit purchased their vehicle, and most paid a premium to do so, expecting to get the advertised fuel mileage rate. And apparently in 2010 there was a software upgrade that actually made the fuel economy even worse.

For the portion of the lawsuit that I’m eligible for, I’ll get a $100 cash payment. However, other members of the class action lawsuit settlement can receive more, especially if they had a software update in 2010 which further diminished their gas mileage economy.

The other week, I saw a news story on TV about one lady who opted out of the class action lawsuit in favor of taking her case to a small claims court. She’s able to ask for more money that way, while still not involving any lawyers.

Are you a member of this class action lawsuit settlement against the American Honda Motor Company? How much will you be getting?
