There are two main entry level positions in the world of investment banking: associate and analyst. If you are the type of person who enjoys analyzing financial statements, discussing business transactions and negotiating business deals, then one of these investment banking careers could be right for you. Analysts and associates have similar roles, but to become an associate most firms require one to have a Master’s degree in any of the main financial fields (accounting, commerce, economics, etc.). On the other hand, becoming an analyst requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the primary financial fields. All investment bankers play a vital role for companies and firms that are going through the merger or acquisition process. They help raise funds for their client, drum up interest in the company their working for and find public and private investment opportunities. The average investment banking salary in the United States was just over $100,000 in 2010.
