Punta de Mita has always been an unknown quantity for me. Though, I have travelled a bit in Riviera Nayarit, I never got a chance to visit Punta Mita. So when the opportunity itself presented to me as Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf Classic event then I decided to take full advantage and explore this luxurious resort destination.
By the sound of it Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf Classic seemed to be a luxury event where high quality golfing and gourmet food will be served in the most breathtaking settings. And I was not wrong!
Riviera Nayarit is one exotic destination but Punta de Mita is on a level of its own. The destination has 6 miles of pristine beaches which can make even a lifelong beach bum like me fall in love with it at the first sight. Punta Mita has two world class resorts St. Regis and the Four Seasons which organized the event American Express IV Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf Classic from April 3rd to April 6th, 2014. This was the fourth time the event took place and each time it got bigger and better. Such was the tremendous response of the event that it generated more than fifty thousand dollars for the Lorena Ochoa’s foundation which seeks to work for children and adult health & fitness.
The golf tournament, the Punta Mita Cup, a two-day golf tournament played on was held on Jack Nicklaus’ designed courses (Bahia and Pacifico) which are considered to be among the best golf courses in Mexico. To make the event more prestigious, LPGA legend and former top Mexican golfer, Lorena Ochoa, was the honored guest of the event and conducted a golf clinic on the first day. In the clinic she shared her golfing techniques and secrets with the attendees. Hopefully, I picked up enough tricks to impress my golfing buddies back home.
This fashionable event was even more spectacular thanks to world class food and wine. Once I had my fill of sports, my gastronomic senses were waiting to be overwhelmed by gourmet food. The food fest was attended by the biggest names from the food and wine industries. The highlight of the event for me were the sumptuous meals and cooking courses taught by world famous chefs, wine and tequila tastings by acclaimed sommeliers, tequila masters and winemakers.
This was my first ever visit to this event and needless to say, I am already a big convert to Punta de Mita. Punta Mita spells luxury. As a foodie and travel writer, this holiday has been one of my most cherished and fulfilling. The event was beautiful confluence of beautiful hills, Pacific Ocean, golf and food joined by the thread of hospitality by the two resorts.
Punta Mita has transformed itself from a fishing village to a high end resort destination without compromising the sanctity of the ecology that’s the hallmark of the place. If your idea of a vacation is luxury, serenity, surfing, fishing, golfing and food of the highest order then this gem in the west coast of Mexico is the place to visit.
